Park

Mežotne boasts an English style landscape park known for its natural beauty.

The park has three parts – a parade yard, a summer park and a winter park. In the middle of the park there is a natural ravine that separates the summer park from the winter park. One of the main paths leads along the river bank and offers fantastic views across the river. The other path leads along the Easter side, in the middle of which there is a small hillock that creates an optical illusion of the park being more spacious. The design of the park is said to have cost twice as much as that of the castle.

Between the years 1940 and 1969 the park gradually became overgrown. Due to the efforts of the agronomist E. Fridrihsons, the director of the Plant Breeding and Testing Station of that time - V. Tūls and a number of other inhabitants of the Mežotne rural municipality, the restoration of the park started in 1969.
